Default Rumpel, Cora and Regina
After learning that Cora was the original miller's daughter in the traditional Rumpel tale, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on his relationship with not Cora, but Regina as well.

DISCUSS!!!

In "The Stable Boy," Regina told Daniel that her mother was the daughter of a miller. This pretty much confirmed our suspicions that Regina or her mother was connected to the original Rumpelstiltskin tale. Well, that and the fact that her last name is Mills.

I agree with your assumptions, but until anything is confirmed, the jury is still out for me.

I do think that there is a connection to the original tale, and I do think that Cora was the one that made the deal with Rumpelstiltskin--not for her power though. I don't think Rumpel would give up magic so easily. Maybe when Cora outsmarted Rumpel, her powers came to her...I don't know.

I posted in an earlier thread that I think Cora may have had to give a child up. I think the child is Jefferson--explaining both his and Regina's magical powers--and that's why Jefferson is adamant about not abandoning family.

But, until Cora's tale is rediscovered in season 2, I am assuming everything is conjecture.

I don't know the original Rumples tale at all, so I can't speculate about Rumples and Cora's relationship. However, I don't think Regina and Jefferson are related. Having powers doesn't mean you are related. I also think that Jefferson is so adamant about not abandoning family because of what happened with his wife.

A magic hat does not equal magic powers. All it does is transport you to different worlds or times. It's the same as having a ring that turns you invisible. it doesn't make you a sorceror. It just means you own a magical object.

But the story could all be a red herring to rumple's original tale as well. After all half of the stories are only vaugely connected to the original. Like Red being the wolf instead of meeting one. Cinderella making a deal with rumple instead of fairy godmother, and so forth. Or August being Baelfire was a red herring when he was Pinocchio instead. If cora's made a deal with rumple to get her powers she may have given him somethig completely different. Perhaps he was still making the curse at this point and traded for something she had he needed for the curse.

Then again cora's powers could be herditary. Maybe have something similar to charmed where once the person died the powers would be unbound. So once Cora died Regina's powers were unbound. I guess we won't know for sure until the deal is seen or mentioned in a future episode as i'm guessing Cora will return at some point.

In the original Tale of Rumpelstiltskin we was outsmarted by the Miller's Daughter.

I think at one point Cora had the Dagger. And I agree I think she did get her powers from Rumpel. He wouldn't necessarily have to give up his powers to give her magic.

I don't think the magic is hereditary. I think they gain it for some reason. Rumple tells charming that snow can't kill Regina, because snow will become as dark as Regina. I think Regina does something to Cora, and obtains her power. I think Cora does something, to attain her powers. Never ending cycle.

Hmm. So you're saying it might be similar to how zoso & rumple's powers worked. Where after rumple killed zoso he took zoso's powers. Which also means Cora may have killed another dark sorceror to get that power... and then regina could have killed her mother and got cora's powers.
