Default 1x12- Skin Deep
This episode was definitely a HUGE turning point in the series, and some MAJOR character development for Mr.Gold/Rumpelstiltskin. So the question is- what do you guys think?

Agree ^^

We both loved it and believed it was one of the, if not the best of the series so far.

It might be biased because we both LOOOVE BATB and Rumple is our favorite character...

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the last 30 seconds? If the Queen didn't know who Mr. Gold is, there was no reason to put her there. Unless 1. she did know who Mr. Gold is (although she did look pretty surprised) and knew that Rumple would keep hold of his memory (against what she told him in his cell) or 2. she still has her memories and was deemed insane...?

I'm surprised that Rumple believed that Belle was dead. I thought he was more omniscient than that.

Though I absolutely loved the episode. Rumple is much nicer than I originally thought. Esp. when he freaked out over the clipped cup

Actually I'm a bit conflicted...I don't know if I want him nice and sentimental or cold and heartless.

Regina knew who Mr. Gold was but she didn't know if Mr. Gold remembers who he is in Fairy Tale land cause no one but herself is suppose to remember the curse which was why in episode 1 she agreed to that "if I say please, you must do as I request" thingie by Rumple. She even pointed out if her curse worked then Rumple wouldn't remember this bargain, to which Rumple replied something along the lines that it shouldn't matter to her then.

I absolutely adored this episode, and was not expecting to either. I was skeptical when I heard Rumpel was going to be the Beast, but the writers turned it into absolute gold (Yes, pun intended). In one single episode, the writers have made Rumpel/Mr. Gold the most interesting and complex character on the show.

I am a satisfied fangirl.

[QUOTE=Meo;2175]I'm surprised that Rumple believed that Belle was dead. I thought he was more omniscient than that.

--I was surprised as well because I thought he had the power of foresight, but then I thought maybe that ability wont work on her because he loves her and love is the one thing magic cannot change, destroy, or create. This actually makes me wonder also if Belle remembers fairy tale land, since, if I remember correctly, Rumple was the one who actually created the spell, and if his power made it, would the fact that he loves her shield her from its affects?

Actually I'm a bit conflicted...I don't know if I want him nice and sentimental or cold and heartless.

--lol I guess its a good thing hes a bit of both hes deff. one of the most conflicted characters in the show and I love it!

This episode made me think that Rumples/Mr Gold might actually turn out to be the real villain of the story. He just seems more cold and ruthless than the Evil Queen.

I honestly feel really bad for Mr.French in this episode because when he was being beaten, Mr. Gold keep shouting things at him that he would`nt understand. He probably doesnt even know he has a daughter, and even in FTL, he wasnt the one who took her, it was the EQ. I also think that Mr. Gold was being so ruthless in the beating because he was blaming Mr. French for Belles "death", but also blaming himself for letting her go.

As to whos more evil, the queen/Regina, or Rumple/ Mr. G, I honestly couldnt say. I think Regina destroys things people love because she feels that if she cant have love, then no one can, and Rumple is a normal man underneath the "dark ones" curse. I must say, however, at least Rumple does fairly warn people that magic "comes with a price" before he does what they ask of him, whereas the EQ strikes without warning.

The character of Rumple seems the most conflicted and complex but as the story progresses, he's becoming more criminally insane (clownish, occasionally charming, selfish, brutal.) As I recall, the only person who tried to save Belle was Gaston, whom Rumple destroyed without a thought--and about whom no one (including the audience) seems to care (Belle's assertion that he was "superficial" sufficed to erase any feelings of loss for him, his friends and family.) Rumple earlier slaughtered the Fairy Godmother, again, about whom no one apparently cares. So, from killing off those who originally tormented him and would have kidnapped his son (and all children) as cannon fodder for an unwinnable war, he's now into, well, killing just about anyone. Aren't folks worried that next time ... it.could.be.YOU!

I think that the difference in Regina/Queen and Rumple is their choice of victims.

Granted they're both murderers, Rumple just kills random people he meets. The Fairy Godmother, Gaston, Soldiers (both rather swift and unexpected deaths). Regina/Queen seems to kill people she is extremely close to...her Father, Graham, Blind Witch (and in all these cases the victims seems to suffer somewhat before they die or at least they know they're dying).

If I cared about Henry, I would be for his life, as he seems to be next on the list.
