Default Other stories that twist Fairy Tales
Once of the reason I like the show so much is I love stories that have a different twist on Fairy tales.

So I thought we could list other Books, Movies, Shows that do this as well.

The first one that comes to mind for me is "The Looking Glass Wars".
It a book that has a twist on Alice in Wonderland. It's a youth series, (My Daughter was 14 when she read them) but awesome premise and I think they are making a movie out of it.

There was also the 10th Kingdom Miniseries years ago.

Anyone else?

The first thing that comes to mind is Grimm. I haven't watched it, but from what I've heard it sounds like CSI meets fairytales. I also think that they mostly use the Grimm brother's tales, but I'm not sure.
They're on NBC and just got renewed for Season 2.

The comic Fables.

The movie Enchanted.

The movie Brothers Grim

Never heard of Looking Glass Wars, but I've seen 10th Kingdom and really like it at the time. I don't remember much of it at that moment though since it was so long ago since I saw it.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10th_Kingdom

I've read about Grim, but have never seen it. I agree. It sounds like CSI crossed with Fairy Tales.

And never heard of these,but
Mirror,Mirror Novel

Fairy Tales(British TV series)

Ducth Childrens Show

Also, the new shows/movies that are following suit after Once Upon A Time:
Mirror,Mirror 2012 film
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirror_Mirror_(film)
Snow White and the Huntsmen 2012 film
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Wh...d_the_Huntsman

And not necessarily a twist on fairy tales, but I was searching and I found this. It's a real-life forest filled with a bunch of fairy tale replica statues and animatronics:

and also at the same themed park:

Oh and of course the Shrek series plus Puss and Boots movie sequel to them.

Shrek films come to mind. They're a twist on the Beauty and the Beast story. They also have other fairy tale characters in it like Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, The Fairy Godmother, etc.

There's also a segment of the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon show called Fractured Fairy Tales. It would put its on spin on fairy tales.

Tin Man mini series was an interesting retelling of the Wizard of Oz story.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_Man_(TV_miniseries)

The Wicked books and the play are kind of a spin on the Wizard of Oz story making Elphaba (The West Witch) and Glinda (The North/South Witch depending on which version) as old school friends.

Into the Woods play was an interesting mash of Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and a new fairy tale all mixed together. I even hear a rumor Disney might be making a movie based on it too.

The Looking Glass Wars books look awesome! I wish I just had more time to read (and less books to read ^^) but I'll definitely check it out!

I saw a trailer for a new Jack and the Beanstalk movie when I went to see the Hunger Games. It's directed by Brian Singer (who did an amazing job on the first 2 X-Men movies, but kinda screwed Superman Returns ) and I think it comes out in June or something like that.

I loved the 10th Kingdom when I first saw it. I have it on dvd now. When I saw Once Upon A Time I immediately thought about the 10th kingdom. When you think about it the stories are a bit similar. A skeptic girl chosen to save the fairy tale world from the evil queen and Snow White's grandson is one of the main characters. Although Prince Wendell and Henry are very different characters. xd

I love the Mercedes Lackey 500 kingdoms stories as well as her Elemental Masters books. Her stories are very well done and told so that you can all most see them happening. I would recommend them to any one.

I went to her Wikipedia page. Her Black Swan book looks interesting too.

I didn't know Wicked had books I thought it was just the play.

I may have to do up a reading list to get me through withdrawal when the season ends.
